Clinton sits on I-40 in Custer County, in the Anadarko Basin. Choate keeps a yard here, which means the trucks working western Oklahoma leases are based in western Oklahoma, not sent out from Kingfisher County every morning.

The yard is at Choate's own disposal well: River Bend #3-1, 2.8 road miles and about 10 minutes away, just north of town. A haul from a lease near Clinton can go from pickup to unloading without leaving the area, and the truck ends the day where it started.

Anadarko Basin water

Custer County and the counties around it produce from the deeper Anadarko Basin, from the Cana-Woodford to the Granite Wash, and those wells produce water long after they are completed. Having the yard and the well on the same site keeps the haul short and the trucks close to the leases that need them.

I-40 and US-183

I-40 runs east and west through Clinton, and US-183 runs north and south, so Custer, Washita and Dewey County leases are within reach of the Clinton Yard. Fay SWD #1-31, at the western edge of Blaine County 35 road miles to the northeast, is the next Choate well when a job calls for it.

Clinton began in 1903 as Washita Junction, a railroad crossing four miles south of Arapaho. When Arapaho's residents sued to stop the new town, territorial judge Clinton F. Irwin ruled for the townsite company, and the town took his name. Two railroads made it a trade center, Route 66 later made it one of the biggest stops between Oklahoma City and Amarillo, and it still calls itself the Hub City of Western Oklahoma.

Clinton High School's Red Tornadoes are one of the great football programs in the state, with 17 state championships between 1965 and 2021. The most recent came in the 2021 Class 4A final, a 35–0 win over Tuttle that finished a 13–1 season.

The Oklahoma Route 66 Museum on Gary Boulevard, opened in 1995, was the first state-run Route 66 museum in the country. The Cheyenne Cultural Center sits on Route 66 north of town, McLain Rogers Park and the Clinton Armory are on the National Register of Historic Places, and Foss Lake, about 15 miles west, supplies the city's water and its weekend fishing. Toby Keith was born in Clinton in 1961.
