Okarche grew up around a railroad depot in 1890, and its name is stitched together from OKlahoma, ARapaho and CHEyenne. German settlers shaped the town: St. John's Lutheran Church dates to 1892 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2024, and Holy Trinity Catholic Church followed in 1893. Blessed Stanley Rother, the Okarche-born priest killed in Guatemala in 1981 and beatified in 2017, grew up here.
Okarche High School's Warriors wear purple and gold, and the boys basketball team has won Class A state championships in 1979, 2024, 2025 and 2026, beating Caddo 84–65 for the latest. Holy Trinity Catholic School serves the town too.
Eischen's Bar, open since 1896 and billed as Oklahoma's oldest bar, draws people from across the state for its fried chicken, and was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in 2009. The Dow Grain Company elevator is on the National Register, and the town celebrates its roots each year at Okarchefest in September and Deutschesfest in October.
