Woodward is the county seat of Woodward County and a hub for northwest Oklahoma, on the western side of the Anadarko Basin. It is also the farthest town on this list from a Choate disposal well, and it is better to say so plainly.

From the call to the disposal well
You call dispatch at 405-463-9527 and agree a pickup window. A truck leaves the Seiling Yard on US-270 or US-183, loads at your tank battery, and runs southeast to Fay SWD #1-31. Scheduling ahead is what keeps a long disposal run efficient.
When a longer run makes sense
For many Woodward operators the value is in one company handling the whole chain, a Choate truck and a Choate well, on one invoice, with no third-party disposal fee. Fox #1-8 and Pierce #1-34H are further options when a lease sits east of town.

Woodward began in 1887 as a stop on the Santa Fe's Southern Kansas Railway, six years before the Cherokee Outlet opened, and grew as the supply point for Fort Supply and a stop on the Great Western Cattle Trail. Frontier lawyer Temple Houston, son of Sam Houston, practised here, and his 1898 "Soiled Dove" speech was given upstairs in the 1895 opera house on Main Street. In 1933 the Woodward Livestock Auction opened as the state's first commercial cattle auction, and on April 9, 1947 the town was struck by the deadliest tornado in Oklahoma history.
Gas has been part of Woodward since 1956, when the county's discovery well came in. CF Industries' nitrogen plant has turned Anadarko Basin gas into fertilizer here since 1977, and wind turbines now line the ridges around the city.
Woodward High School's Boomers won state football titles in 1945 and 1994. Northwestern Oklahoma State University and High Plains Technology Center both have campuses here, as does the USDA's Southern Plains Range Research Station, founded in 1913. The Plains Indians & Pioneers Museum and the restored 1929 Woodward Arts Theatre are in town, the PollyAnna Cafe has served Main Street for generations, and the Woodward Elks Rodeo at Crystal Beach Park draws crowds every June. Boiling Springs State Park, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, is six miles northeast on the North Canadian River.
